Last year’s first ever International Mass and Lunch in the Castleford Parish of St Joseph was such a success that it’s now become an annual event!
Parish Priest Fr John Aveyard previewed the event in a Homily transcribed below:

The Order of Service reflected the different traditions and many languages of the Universal Church. The first reading at Mass was in Polish and the second was in the Keralan language, Malayalam – and the Lord’s Prayer was sung in Latin, for most of the last two millennia and to this day the international language of the Catholic Church.

At the social event after Mass, the food included scouse from Liverpool, Chicken rendang, Polish Apple Cake, Curry, Borscht, spring rolls, biriani, cakes – and Fr John made some Yorkshire Parkin to reflect his own Batley heritage!
