Bradford Catholic Youth Choir features on new CD

Members of Bradford Catholic Youth Choir (BCYC) have recorded a CD with the world-famous Gabrieli Consort.

An English Coronation – featuring youth choirs, professional singers and a huge orchestra – was recorded last summer at Ely Cathedral and has just been released to rave reviews:

‘An astonishing recording… with bells ringing, the organ thundering, and the vibrant voices of the young choirs from the training programme Gabrieli Roar. It swept me away.’ – The Times

★★★★★ ‘What a stroke of genius! Truly heart-warming; thank heaven for the creative musicians of the world.’ – Choir and Organ Magazine

‘A dazzling triumph!’ – Gramophone Magazine

★★★★★ – BBC Music Magazine

BCYC is amongst a carefully-selected group of ten youth choirs from across the UK which are part of ‘Gabrieli Roar’: a partnership in which the Consort takes a bold stance on the ability of young singers, challenging them to perform side-by-side with professional musicians. The young people from the Diocesan Schools Singing Programme in Catholic schools across the Bradford and Keighley areas have been part of Gabrieli Roar for two years and were the first school in the north of England to be invited to join the initiative.

Gabrieli Artistic Director and Conductor, Paul McCreesh, said: ‘Gabrieli Roar stems from a very strong personal feeling about the importance of culture to young people in our increasingly fragmented world. The Diocese of Leeds has a similar vision, so it’s a natural partnership, and I am delighted to support their dedication and hard work with young people.’

The CD is available to buy here.
