Staff, leaders, governors and directors gathered for Mass at St Austin’s Catholic Church in Wakefield to celebrate the Year of Jubilee. St Austin’s is one the twelve churches, designated by Bishop Marcus, as a pilgrimage destination in this Jubilee year.
Fr Sean Crawley, a Director of the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust and Parish Priest who celebrated the Mass said: “This is the first Pilgrimage Mass for the Year of Jubilee at St Austin’s and it is wonderful to have the opportunity to gather and celebrate together. We hope this will be the start of many pilgrimages to one of our designated pilgrimage churches in this Jubilee Year.” The Mass planned by the Mission and Catholic Life committee brought together all fifteen schools from across the Trust.
Lesley Fitton, CEO of the Trust, took the opportunity to thank all for their service to the families and young people in their communities. Following the Mass there was an opportunity for everyone to gather in the parish rooms for refreshments and conversation together.
Kieron Flood, Director of Education for the Diocese of Leeds, who attended the celebration commented: “ What a wonderful opportunity for colleagues to gather in prayer and Eucharist together, as Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee Year, it is testament to celebrations like these of the priority that is given to the Catholic Life and Mission in the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust. The celebration was further complimented by the wonderful singing and accompaniment by St Austin’s Parish choir. We look forward to many other celebrations across our Diocese in the coming months.”
