Please pray for Simon Akhirebhu and Bernard Martin, both parishioners at St Austin and English Martyrs, Wakefield, who were ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on Saturday 11 December, at Leeds Cathedral, and now begin their ministry in the Diocese.
Their ordinations take the total number of Permanent Deacons in the Diocese of Leeds to twenty-four. It is now fifty years since our then Bishop, Bishop Wheeler, became the first diocesan bishop in England and Wales to ordain men to the Permanent Diaconate following the reforms of the Second Vatican Council.
