Leeds University philosopher Dr Simon Hewitt spoke to a packed room at Hinsley Hall on the evening of Thursday 9 January. He spoke on the theme of the Psalms and Mental Health. Using insight from his personal experiences, Simon explored ways in which reciting the Psalms as part of the Church’s prayer gives Catholics the chance to express negative emotions which modern culture often encourages us to hide. Equally, the psalms allow us to express feelings of joy which might seem distant from our present experience.

The next talk in “The God Who Gives Life” series will be given by Fr Richard Ounsworth OP from Blackfriars, Oxford. Fr Richard will speak about “How Christ Teaches us to be Human” on Thursday 13 February at 7pm, Hinsley Hall. The full programme of talks can be found here.
