A Culture of Care: Catholic Care tells Bradford Volunteer’s Story

Linsey’s Story is an 8-minute video on Catholic Care’s YouTube channel telling the story of Linsey Holmes, a Catholic Care volunteer in Bradford.

The video was produced as part of a Community Storytelling Project to mark Bradford City of Culture 2025. The ‘Food on Film’ project helped charities and community groups to make short YouTube films publicising their work around food sustainability. Catholic Care’s video was developed by Michelle Vink (Community Team Manager), Siobhan Vink (Gianna Baby Bank), and Johan Bergström-Allen (Communications Manager).

When her son was one year-old, Linsey was diagnosed with a rare medical condition that meant frequent hospital trips and being unable to go back to work. Linsey received help from her family and social services, and started going back to church where she found a sense of peace.

Years later, Linsey joined her mum Sandra as a volunteer with one of Catholic Care’s lunch groups for older and socially-isolated people. Linsey got involved with providing meals and support during the Covid pandemic, and then volunteered with Catholic Care’s Community Market at St Winefride’s Church in Wibsey.

The ‘Food on Film’ Team drew together partners from the University of Leeds (Sustainability Research Institute) and York St John University (CRISS Critical Sustainability Stories). The project received financial support from: Public Health; City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council; and Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute.

The films are already making an impact, and will be screened at the Bradford Science Festival at the Science and Media Museum in October.
