A great deal of regeneration work is taking place in our woodland which also contains the “Calvary” commissioned by Peter Middleton in 1862, a favourite oasis of many local walkers who are familiar with the area and those who simply want to offer a prayer or take time to reflect.
On the way to Calvary you can pass through ‘Pieta Wood’ where you might be lucky enough to spot deer or plenty other wildlife which graces us with its presence.
Myddelton Grange is the purpose built Youth Retreat House of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds. Opened in June 2002, this 46 bedded facility, set in more than 100 acres of mixed woodland and farmland, continues the work of retreat and spiritual renewal begun on this site by the Passionist Fathers in 1922. The primary mission of Myddelton Grange is to the young people of the Diocese, through their schools and parishes and additionally, to the students and staff of chaplaincies at Colleges of Further Education and Universities.
The retreat House has 20 twin bedded and 4 single rooms. Two of the twin bedded rooms are disability adapted. (In the event that disabled facilities are not required these two rooms can accommodate 3 people).
There are 2 public rooms with seating capacity for 50 people and two smaller rooms, including the Library, which have seating for 20 and 12 people respectively.
In attempting to fulfil our primary mission to young people we work in a relaxed and friendly environment in which the team provides retreats that are relevant to the young people’s life experiences. Central to this work is the conviction that relationship with self, others and God cannot be treated in isolation; hence a retreat experience offers time to examine and strengthen all of these. We provide time for personal reflection and spiritual growth through a positive experience of living as a community. This is achieved in structuring social time, sharing the tasks of communal living and the exploration of a particular theme through group work, personal reflection and liturgy.
The Chapel of St. Mary and St. Margaret Clitheroe is integral to the house and the retreat experience.
It is here that, together, we enjoy periods of guided meditation, group and personal prayer and the Mass.
Myddelton Grange can also accommodate adult retreats, clergy retreats and professional groups (on a day or residential basis) when the house is not in use by the youth. Please contact us to discuss availability.
For further information, or to discuss a booking, please contact our Secretary who will be happy to advise and assist you.
