Huddersfield's Choirs Singing with Festive Spirit
21st December 2018
Our own Huddersfield Boys and Girls Choirs and Huddersfield Youth Choir once again joined the Borough Organist, Gordon Stewart in the Town Hall for a superb programme of Christmas music from round the world. Congratulations to the whole choir and to soloists Vincent Ellis (Once in Royal David's City) and Isobel Ameyar (Calypso Carol).
Gordon complimented Choral Director Lucy Appleyard on the extremely high standard of music and concentration shown by her young singers, and how their behaviour on and off stage was a credit to their families and parish.
As well as regularly singing for Liturgies at St Patrick's Church, this year, the 30-strong Huddersfield Girls' Choir made their debut on the world's longest-running religious broadcast: BBC Radio 4's The Daily Service. The Boys' Choir [pictured rehearsing with Choral Director Lucy Appleyard] now has more than 20 members and is in particularly fine form, and Huddersfield Youth Choir has this year welcomed a student from Huddersfield University, Adam Robinson, as Choral Scholar.
Several siblings from families in Holy Redeemer Parish are choir members, and anyone wishing to help sponsor a young singer to go on the February half-term 2019 Boys' Choir trip to Norwich would be relieving a family of a financial burden, as well as enabling a child to benefit from the wonderful opportunities offered through the joy and skills involved in making music!
