The Annual Collection for the Diocesan Perú Commission is taken on the First Sunday of Advent.

This year's 'Annual Review' of our Diocese (soon to be published and available in parishes and online) contains a special feature detailing the work that you in our Diocese support in Peru, assisting the physical and spiritual welfare of some of the world's poorest people.

Since 1969, our Diocese has provided priests and religious to work in Peru. Our prayers and fund raising continue this Mission. The annual Advent Sunday Diocesan collection goes directly to various initiatives, mainly within the vast city of Lima.

In addition to many healthcare provisions, the Peru Commission is also developing links between Leeds Trinity University and the Catholic University Sedes Sapientiae of the Diocese of Carabayllo.  Our contribution helps committed Catholic students achieve their goals and have a better future.

The Parish of Sts Peter and Paul is also supported. It has just celebrated its Golden Jubilee.  Fr Gerry Hanlon, now a retired priest of Leeds, was quite literally a founding father.  The parish priest is now Peruvian. Handing on a thriving parish to a local priest whilst continuing to pray for and provide resources for the Christian community there marks the success of the help of the Diocesan Mission.

There is still much work to be done, so please support the Diocesan collection on Advent Sunday as generously as you can - and continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Peru throughout the year.
