Good News for our Slovakian Faithful!

Good News for our Slovakian Faithful!

The Diocese of Leeds welcomes Slovakian priest Fr Marek Sitar.  Born and brought up in Bratislava with five other siblings (two of whom are also priests!) Fr Marek was ordained in 2003 and has previously ministered to both Slovakian- and English-speaking communities in the USA.

Regular Masses in Slovakian are at 12:00 noon at St William's Catholic Church in Bradford and in Keighley in the Parish of Our Lady of Victories and St Anne.

The Dean of Keighley, Canon Michael McCreadie and all the clergy and parishioners in the Keighley area have given a warm welcome to the Catholic Slovakians since they arrived, and there is now a real sense of integration and community.

Slovakian Masses at St Anne’s will be at 9:30 am (PLEASE NOTE - change of time!) on the first Sunday of each month: the first of these was on Sunday, 3rd September, at which music was led by members of the parish’s Slovakian community and the Good Shepherd Centre Choir.  After all Masses, there will be opportunities to socialise at the Keighley Catholic Centre, where Fr Marek will also lead the catechesis for families preparing for the Sacrament of Baptism.

On Friday, 15th September at 7:00 p.m. Fr Marek will celebrate Mass at St Anne’s in honour of Our Lady of Sorrows, who is the Principal Patroness of Slovakia, with an opportunity to socialise and celebrate afterwards at the Good Shepherd Centre Charity, Priest's House, Keighley, BD22 6ES.

To continue the celebrations for this major feast, and building on the success of the Irish Musical Evenings at Keighley Catholic Centre (post code BD21 6LH), there will be a Slovakian Music Night on a date to be confirmed in the run up to Christmas.  **Note event postponed from 16th September, owing to the band having accidently double-booked with a wedding this Saturday - watch the website and Parish bulletin for more details!**
