Confirmations in Huddersfield Deanery
9th May 2017
The 7 o'clock Mass on Tuesday night at St Patrick's Church in Huddersfield is usually well-attended - but this week, the church was packed to capacity for the Confirmations of 45 young people from across the Huddersfield Deanery.
Supported by their priests and deacons, sponsors, families, friends, and fellow parishioners, the confirmands listened attentively to the Bishop's Homily, as he acknowledged the many good reasons why they had chosen to be indelibly and eternally marked in Oil of Chrism with the Sign of the Cross, becoming 'Soldiers of Christ' who can face the often difficult and sometimes dangerous path of life as a Christian 'armed' with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Bishop Marcus concelebrated Mass with the Dean (Canon Ian Smith) and Fr Tony Rosso of Holy Redeemer Parish, and Priests from the neighbouring Huddersfield parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary (Fr Steven Billington and Fr Emmanuel Adindu) and St Joseph's, Brighouse (Canon Philip FitzGerald). Holy Redeemer Parish is known for its music, and this was led by the Hudderfield Boys and Huddersfield Girls Choirs, directed by Thomas Leech, with organist Malcolm Hinchliffe.
