Churches Together in Wakefield - News Update

5th MAY 2017

Please pray for our country at this election time

ASCENSION DAY

We will celebrate the day as usual by meeting at a high point, just outside the city- Sandal Castle- at 7:30 in the morning for a short service, looking over Wakefield. A flyer for this event may be downloaded here.

THY KINGDOM COME: ASCENSION to PENTECOST 2017

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops’ of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.

The hope is that people will commit to pray with God’s world-wide family - as a church, individually or as a family; churches will hold prayer events, such as 24-7 prayer, prayer stations and prayer walks, across the UK and in other parts of the world; people will be empowered through prayer by the Holy Spirit, finding new confidence to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. Visit https://www.thykingdomcome.global/about for more information.

It is for each of us, the Wakefield family of churches, to organise prayer walks in our own localities on any one day between 24th May (Ascension Eve) - 4th June (Pentecost), for an hour or two, or longer if we are able. The aim will be to have all residents of the city of Wakefield lifted up to God in prayer over that 10 day period. If we want to see change and growth in Gods kingdom in this city, then let us be united in this one common aim. It will be a very simple, yet powerful thing to do.

This will be followed by a joint church 24 Hour Prayer event, catering for all ages at St Catherine's Church, Doncaster Road, from 2100, Friday 16th June to 2100 Saturday 17th June.
As well as group prayers, we would like to invite each participating church, if possible, to create a prayer station for use at the event. The last hour on Saturday 17th June, 2000 - 2100, will be a joint time of worship, to which all people and ages will be welcome to attend.

Please reply to let us know by Monday 15th May at the latest if:

• you are willing to and able to get your church involved in a prayer walk

• you are willing and able to get your church involved in the 24hr prayer event. For this, we would love to invite you to a short meeting to plan the 24 hour prayer event  - rota management, possible prayer station input etc.

• alternatively, let us know if you plan to participate in the 24hr prayer event, hopefully with folk from you own congregation and/or if you can provide a prayer station. Any help you can provide in promoting this event will be greatly appreciated. Please let us know if you need any posters to advertise the 24 Hour Prayer event or 24 hour prayer slot sign up sheets.

A CALL TO PRAYER FOR WAKEFIELD

A message from David Gerrard,  Sally Martin & Carol Brooke  "We are a group of leaders from churches in Wakefield that have a heart for seeing the lives of people in Wakefield impacted with the power of the gospel of Jesus.  As a group we are reaching out to all other churches in Wakefield that share this same heart with a call to prayer. It is no coincidence that a growing number of believers today are sensing an awakening that is taking place in the UK as God calls more and more of His people into a deeper season of prayer.

The pressures, suffering and emptiness in the lives of so many people in this country demonstrates a need like never before for people to come to faith in Christ.

That, we believe, is why the church exists - to display to all the love of God, to lead many to faith and into the abundant life of freedom promised by Jesus to all of His followers.
