Churches Together in Wakefield - News Update

GOOD FRIDAY WALK OF WITNESS

The Good Friday walk will take place on Good Friday morning 14th April as usual, starting from the Wakefield Cross at Wakefield Cathedral at 9:45am, returning there via Trinity Walk, the Bull Ring and Little Westgate for a short United Service.

THE ICON OF PEACE

Churches Together has arranged to host this Icon, pictured, made in the Monastery of St John in the Desert, near Jerusalem, which was gifted to Pax Christi International in 1999.  The people and stories depicted on the ICON, from Eastern and Western Christian traditions and from scripture, open our eyes to forgiveness and reconciliation as part of making peace.

WAKEFIELD CATHEDRAL 11th March on display all day 8:15 Morning Liturgy: 10:30 Eucharist: 12noon Pax Christi Liturgy: 5pm Missa
…and at St George’s Lupset and St James Thornes on 12/13th March St Georges from the 10:45 Communion Service until 1pm: St James from 5pm with 6pm Evensong: then Monday at St Georges all day for quiet prayer.

RIDING LIGHTS THEATRE GROUP is touring over this Lent period and have chosen Wakefield as one of their places to perform their Passion Play ‘Crosslight’.  They will be at Destiny Church on Saturday 18 March starting at 7pm.  Tickets are £10 and are available from Riding Lights (Box Office: 01904 613000 or www.Ridinglights.org), or Destiny Church (01924 382 162), or on the door on the night.   "Crosslight, timed between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, draws us into the dramatic events of Christ’s Passion and into the experience of one disciple who failed, despite everything he believed so passionately.  It will be an excellent evening with thought provoking moments presented in the amazing Victorian Theatre that is home to Destiny Church."

VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED BY THE CROSS PROJECT

This year it’s been brilliant to see the numbers of young people that come to our lunch and after school clubs rising. These increased numbers make the clubs more difficult to run, especially with just one schools worker. The CROSS Project therefore urgently needs volunteers to help in two lunch clubs and one after-school club.  Ideally we would love to have two helpers for the Schools Worker for each of the following:

Kettlethorpe High School  – Monday’s 12.15 – 1pm
Outwood Grange Academy – Tuesday’s 2.30 – 3.30pm
Becket’s – Friday’s 1 – 2pm

The CROSS Project would provide the relevant DBS certificate and cover any costs you may incur.  The benefits include:
- The opportunity to work with young people and make a positive impact  in their lives
- Induction and Training
- A chance to explore your calling with young people with an experienced schools worker in a safe environment
- Ideas and resources that you can also use in your church
Massive satisfaction
