New Boys, Girls and Junior Choirs for Wakefield and Pontefract
14th February 2017
Does your child love to sing...?
Following great success in Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds, the Diocese of Leeds Schools’ Singing Programme has rolled out new musical opportunities for children from January 2017 to Wakefield and Pontefract, in partnership with the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust.
Bishop Konstant founded the music programme in the Diocese of Leeds on the basis the opportunities were available to large numbers of young people and that the choirs should have the highest possible aspirations.
Following the model of the programme in other areas, primary school children are benefitting from expert choral tuition during school time, under the leadership of Choral Director Charlotte Kitson. From this springboard, primary and secondary pupils then have the opportunity to audition for the Bishop Konstant Youth Choir, which will sing Masses throughout the deaneries of Wakefield and Pontefract, as well as taking part in wider Diocesan events, concerts, broadcasts and competitions.
Rehearsals take place during term time:
Senior Boys’ Choir (boys Y5 and above): Wednesdays, 5.15-6.15pm, (commencing 1st March 2017) St. Austin’s Church, Wentworth Terrace, WF1 3QN
Senior Girls’ Choir launching soon! Contact Charlotte Harrison, the Music Department Administrator, to register your interest.
Wakefield Junior Choir (boys Y3-4, girls Y3-5): Wednesdays, 4-5pm, (commencing 1st March 2017) St. Austin’s Church, Wentworth Terrace, WF1 3QN
Pontefract Junior Choir (boys Y3-4, girls Y3-5): Mondays, 4-5pm, (commencing 27th February 2017) St. Joseph’s Church, Newgate, WF8 4AA.
Entrance to the Senior Boys’ Choir and Senior Girls’ Choir is by short, informal audition where you will be asked to sing a few exercises. There is no need to prepare an audition song. For the Junior Choirs, there is no audition.
To sing in our choirs is free of charge, though places are limited.
