When we're 64...?

13th February 2017

When we're 64...?

...and the answer to the Beatles' famous question was a resounding 'Yes!' when sixty four senior citizens RSVP'd to the SVP's invitation to a very festive dinner organised at St. Aidan's, Mirfield.

For those who believe that the Christmas Season really ends with Candlemas, the feasting on Saturday 11th February was only just an 'Un-Christmas' dinner, as the menu was resplendent with roast turkey and all the trimmings.

St Aidan's SVP who organised the event owe much gratitude to the local societies and businesses who 'know Christmas in their hearts and keep it all the year', including: Mirfield Round Table and Mirfield Rotary Club for their generous donations; Grantham's Bakery who provided bread rolls free of charge; and Ramsden's Butchers and Haigh's Farm Shop for their generous discounts on the food and drink supplied.

Special thanks are due to Donna from St. Paulinus SVP, Dewsbury, for her talent with the floral table decorations - and to Tracy Dell (head teacher) and Bev France (cook) at Crossley Fields School, who willingly gave of their own time and expertise.

Thanks to the many parishioners who helped on the day and to those who made donations in a second collection at weekend Masses to give this much-needed treat to sixty-four members of their local community.
