Children Respond to Refugee Crisis
9th February 2017
Children at St John the Evangelist Primary School in Bradford have managed to raise an impressive £720 for the Diocesan Refugee Response, following a visit from Mrs Jean Kent from Catholic Care.
Mrs Kent recently visited St John the Evangelist Primary School Bradford and shared accounts of the problems children and their families faced after they arrive in England as asylum seekers and refugees. The children decided they wanted to respond to the message in St.Matthews Gospel, ”For I was hungry and you gave me, food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you made me welcome”. The children raised funds through a series of events, including a scavenger hunt ,a coin trail and a Bake Off competition.
Mrs Kent was delighted to be invited back to the school to be presented with a cheque from the Head Boy and Head Girl, Robert Palmer and Mia Williams. She thanked the children and their parents for their fantastic response and told the school how it would help to transform the lives of the children and their families arriving in our diocese.
