St Mary's & St Peters Federated Catholic Primary Schools
In 2006 St Marys Catholic Primary School was having some difficulties and Ofsted placed the school in Special Measures. Since the neighburing Catholic Primary School, St Peters had received praise from Ofsted for its success, the Diocese approached the two governing bodies to federate in order that the successful leadership and governance of St Peter's could help St Mary to improve. During the early stages of collaboration it became clear that the St. Mary's building was in poor state and concerns were expressed about the safety of the premises. The federated governing body took the decision in May 2006, in consultation with the Diocese, to move St Mary's Staff and pupils on to the St Peter's site.
Since then great progress has been made and St Mary's came out of Special Measures earlier this year. Since the two schools are now operating as a single unit the governors have accepted a request from the local authority for the two schools to become one. The governors are therefopre proposing that St Mary's school closes as a separate instition and that the St Peter's School has a change of name to St Mary and St Peter Catholic Primary School. This is exclusively a legal change since all aspects of the day to day operation of the school will remain unchanged. However in order for this legal process to occur the Governors of the school have to publish notice of this proposal and to consult with all who may have an interest.
