Admission Appeals Training for Panel Members - Diocesan Service 11 / 03 / 2014

The Diocese of Leeds Office for Schools and Education have set-up an Independent Appeals Service, and last year was our busiest yet. To make this service operate effectively, we need people to volunteer to be Appeal Panel members. If you know of anyone who you feel would be willing to serve the diocese in this way please pass the details below to them.

There are two types of panel members needed - Lay Members and members who have experience in education, are acquainted with education conditions in the LA or are a parent of a registered pupil at a school. Parents and school governors will not be used for appeals at their own schools or in their own immediate areas. As a panel member, you will need to have a friendly manner and to be able to listen to the case put forward by parents and schools. Panels are made up of three people and as a member of the panel you will need the ability to make a balanced judgment based on the facts. Panel members do not need to have detailed knowledge of the law relating to admissions but training in the basic principles is essential and will be provided. All panel members are volunteers but are able to claim travel expenses.

If this type of service to the Church is of interest to you then come along to our next training sessions:

Tuesday 18 March 2014 at 1.00pm - 3.00pm at Hinsley Hall (these sessions are free of charge).
