July 19th, 2008 - Diocesan Pilgrimage To Lourdes
The annual Lourdes Pilgrimage provides a unique opportunity to gather as diocese with the Bishop to pray and journey in faith. Pilgrims come from all parts of the diocese. Last year quite a number of new pilgrims and parish groups joined us for the first time. Some 600 adult pilgrims took part including 175 sick and less able people. Indeed the sick and less able pilgrims are at the very heart of our experience in Lourdes.
In addition, 350 young pilgrims from Diocesan schools and colleges come to share their faith with us and provide enthusiastic and energetic support to dependent pilgrims. These young people are themselves cared for and encouraged by 50 teachers, assistants and chaplains.
This year, 2008, was a Jubilee year for the Sanctuary at Lourdes being the 150th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our lady to Saint Bernadette.
Together we numbered more than 1000 pilgrims.

It is hoped that the Pilgrimage will soon have its own webpages as part of the Diocesan website. This will give up to date information on the pilgrimage and will include a photo album showing pilgrimage liturgies, devotions and other activites.
