Our desire to start afresh from Christ reminds us that we are not saved by any formula, but by a person. We do not need to invent any new programme, but return to the programme of the Gospel and the living Tradition of the Church which has Christ at its centre. The Pope speaks of how renewal must be translated into pastoral initiatives that are adapted to the circumstances of each community:

“It is in the local churches that the specific features of a detailed pastoral plan can be identified – goals, methods, formation and enrichment of the people involved, the search for necessary resources – which will enable the proclamation of Christ to reach people, to mould communities, and to have a deep and incisive influence in bringing Gospel values to bear in society and culture.” (NMI n. 29)
