The inspection of RE and Collective Worship is detailed in Section 48 of the 2005 Education Act which received Royal Assent in April. NBRIA have prepared a Framework and Schedule for the new S48 inspections and it is hoped that all Dioceses will adopt these. A working party from NBRIA is preparing draft documentation for use by schools and inspectors and these should be available in July. The demands on schools should be far less onerous as, in common with the new Ofsted S5 inspections, the focus will be on the school's own self-evaluation. There are several issues to be resolved locally and nationally, notably funding of inspections. The next meeting of NBRIA takes place in July and this is to be followed by a training day for inspectors from the northern dioceses.
