Children's Liturgy
of the Word
On Sunday the People of God gather together to celebrate in word and
Eucharist the mystery of our Lord’s death and resurrection.
The celebration includes everyone: young and old.
In Masses with adults it is necessary to take great care that the
children present do not feel neglected because of their inability
to participate or to understand what happens and what is proclaimed
in the celebration
(Directory for Masses with Children)
In many parishes children celebrate their own liturgies of the
word, with leaders and parents, in a separate place, and return
to their families in the main body of the church for the liturgy
of the eucharist.
There has been a tremendous growth in this celebration of Children’s
Liturgy of the Word during the past few years. Many parishes have
large and enthusiastic teams who each Sunday proclaim the Gospel
in lively and creative ways and so bring the message of Jesus to
life for the children and young people of their community. The number
of books, photocopiable sheets, posters, music tapes and other resources
available has also increased and many of these are listed at the
back of the new CLOW Resource Pack.

To develop and support the provision of Children’s Liturgy
This is achieved by:
A. Providing initial and ongoing training and support for clergy
and leaders of childrens’ liturgies
B. Researching and disseminating good resources
C. Encouraging networking and mutual support in local areas
In order to help and support leaders of CLOW a resource pack has been compiled. This pack complements the many excellent resources already available for those involved with Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
